Good Neighbors International (GNI) was one of the first international NGOs to send an emergency response team to the Gorkha district, the epicenter of the April 25th earthquake. GNI has distributed NFIs such as tarps, blankets and foods to 5,849 families in Gorkha District, to 1,700 families in other districts (5/10) and continues to strive for distribution of relief goods. Moreover, we assembled temporary logistics bases/distribution centers and established supply routes near so that we could distribute relief items more effectively and efficiently.

Dispatching the 1st batch of emergency medical team with doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians to remote and mountainous area in Gorkha, GNI, in our mobile clinics, treated 759 wounded local people whose injuries range from minor sterilization to major operations in 4 days. Additional series of medical teams will be sent continuously to those who urgently need medical services in Gorkha.

For children experiencing serious psychological stress or certain trauma after the disaster, GNI also launched psychosocial support programs with its own tools. It is specially designed for emergency situation and it facilitates children’s early recovery to daily lives as soon as possible. This psychosocial support programs will be conducted as a program in Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs), newly established by GNI. As a co-leading agency in Protection cluster in Gorkha District, GNI exerts much more efforts and resources for children and other vulnerable groups.

GNI is an international humanitarian and development organization. It has made great strides in its mission by providing people around the world with a better quality of life since its establishment in Korea, 1991. GNI was granted General Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC in 1996 and acknowledged its contribution and granted the “MDGs Award’ in 2007.
