Nepal: Nepal Emergency: the activities of the Italian team are coming to an end

Italy has donated the Nepalese Government health devices for the hospital ofTrisuli and tents to replace schools destroyed by the quake

The Italian operation in Nepal, coordinated by the Department of Civil Protection, is coming to an end. Over the past few days, the field hospital managed by the Emergency Surgery Group of Pisa has been dismounted. The hospital operated in the village of Satbise, in the district of Nuwakot, at about 90 km from Kathmandu. Overall, over 900 patients were treated, being them people from the surrounding areas and from farther districts, after an isolation of several days after the quake.

The health structure and part of the instruments that will allow the continuation of the outpatient activities were donated to the Nepalese Government, who requested its assignment to the Italian Government due the necessity in the affected areas. Over the past few days, the structure was dismantled in Satbise and set up again in the hospital of Trisuli, in the same district of Nuwakot. Yesterday, 14 May, the Nepalese Ministry of Health and the manager of the health district visited the Italian team.

Besides the health structure, the Italian Government donated twelve tents of the Civil Protection Department, that will host the students, so that school lesson will start again. The Italian Fire Department set up the tents close to the schools destroyed by the quake. The school manager of the Nuwakot district expressed his gratitute for the donation in a letter.

A part of the Italian team has already returned to Italy. The mission will end in the next few days with the closure of the last formal compliances. Other European teams, which helped during the Nepal emergency, have come back.
