COUNTRY STRATEGY
WFP supports the Zero Hunger Challenge goals of the Government through activities targeting nutrition, education and livelihoods support. WFP also provides support to 23,500 refugees from Bhutan living in eastern Nepal through a Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation (PRRO). An emergency operation (EMOP) assisting floodaffected people in four mid-western districts continues. Additionally,
WFP works to enhance the Government’s capacity to monitor food security and policies on nutrition, education and emergency preparedness at the local, regional and national levels.
WFP’s strategic direction takes a life-cycle approach aimed at preventing malnutrition and enabling year round access to food, by supporting vulnerable communities, including pregnant women and nursing mothers, young and school going children as well as adults.
WFP has been present in Nepal since 1964.
