Chautara (Sindhupalchowk), June 13: Over two dozens of schools based in Sindupalchowk district have yet to resume their operation though schools belonging to other ravaged parts of the country reopened since May 31, thanks to the damages due to powerful quakes and subsequent aftershocks.
Of total 591, the schools situated at Tatopani, Baruwa, Golche, Ghorthali, Pangtang, Jethal and Gumba VDCs in the district have yet to come back to normalcy. The schools' management committees had not reached decision whether to relocate the damaged structures of schools to safer place or resume operation form the same location.
As much as 4,009 classrooms of 468 schools in the district – worst hit by the earthquake – have suffered damages. Only 113 schools have been so far assessed by the technical teams in the district where 27 teachers and 101 students were recorded to have been killed in the quake.
Albeit some schools in the district resumed operation, they have not been receiving adequate students unlike prior to the disaster. According to District Education Officer Dilanath Puri, the schools yet to come into operation were Maansarokar Residential School and Gupteshowri Primary School at Tatopani, Gangakharka Primary School and Jhirpu Higher Secondary School in Baruwa and Bhumachaur Primary School among others.
Puri shared that the schools were not coming into regular operation due to high wind, dry landslide and land developing fissures on the premises of the schools.
