HUMANITARIAN NEEDS
An estimated 404,000 children under age-5 and 185,000 Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLWs) are at risk of acute malnutrition.
Based on projected calculations from the health management information system, up to 10,000 children 6 to 59 months will suffer from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in the coming months and similarly around 70,000 (boys and girls) under age-5 will suffer from moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). These figures derive from the pre-crisis data in the Nepal demographic and health survey of 2011 which indicate that the Global Acute Malnutrition prevalence is at 10.9 per cent. More than 185,000 PLWs are also at risk of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies in the 14 worst-affected districts. These vulnerable groups will require sustained nutrition support.
