The death toll from landslides and flooding caused by heavy Monsoon rain in the last two days of July in various VDCs of Kaski district has reached to 34. Most of the victims were senior citizens and young children including a baby aged 3 months.
Lumle, Bhadure Tamagi, Dhikurpokhari are the most affected villages due to landslide. Four persons are still missing.
According to Bamdev Dhungana, president of Kaski Red Cross Chapter, 14 houses in Lumle and 20 houses in Bhaure Tamagi were swept away. Villagers fear multiple others might have been buried under the debris.
“NRCS district chapter provided tarpaulin, blanket and kitchen utensil sets and food items to 25 families in Lumle and 18 families in Bhadaure Tamagi.” Said Khem Sapkota, NRCS district Officer in Kaski. He added that district chapter volunteers provided First Aid Service to 15 wounded persons.
NRCS has also provided blood without charging lab or other costs to people admitted at different hospitals.
Nepal Red Cross society is sending more NFRI and food items to other affected areas of the district.
“The major concern is to arrange safe drinking water facility to nearly 400 households because the main source of water has been disturbed by the landslides.” Mona Aryal, HoD, Health Service Department informed. “NRCS in support with the UNICEF is planning to manage water bladder of 30k liters capacity to solve the problem.”
Nepal Red Cross Society Health Disaster Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Team (HDRVAT) led by Mr. Uttam Joshi, President Health Committee and Central Committee Member had reached Lumle landslide affected area yesterday. Mr Joshi, conveyed deepest condolences to landslides affected communities in Lumle on the behalf of NRCS Chairman Mr. Sanjeev Thapa.
The team conducted a detail impact assessment and met people affected by the disaster. The team members of the assessment were Ms. Mona Aryal (HoD, Health Service Department), Dr. Mausam Bohara (Medical doctor), Dr. Komal Raj Aryal (International Volunteer, Local Disaster Vulnerability Assessment and Humanitarian Response) and Mr. Lalit Khatiwada (Representative, NRCS Disaster Management Department).
