India: SAARC secretariat contributes USD 1200 to India's flood relief fund

Secretary General of SAARC Ahmed Saleem called on Ambassador of India to Nepal, Jayant Prasad, Tuesday and handed him a cheque for 1,249 US Dollars as a token of contribution from the officials of the SAARC Secretariat to the Indian Government’s Relief Fund.

On the occasion, the SAARC Secretary General expressed that he and his colleagues at the SAARC Secretariat were deeply saddened over the loss of many lives and damage to the colossal property caused by the recent floods in the Indian State of Uttarakhand. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families, state-owned news agency RSS reports.

Secretary General Saleem praised the bravery and unity that the people of India have demonstrated at these tragic moments and expressed confidence that the country and the people of India would soon be able to overcome the sufferings caused by this unprecedented calamity.

It may be recalled that the Secretary General had also recently met the Foreign Secretary of Nepal and donated a sum of 1249 US Dollars to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, Nepal, states a press release of the SAARC Secretariat. Nepalnews.com
