Kathmandu,
Taking cash support as an important tool for recovery and giving people the dignity of making their own decisions in prioritising their own recovery and seasonal needs, Nepal Red Cross in support of the global Red Cross partners distributed cash to prioritised earthquake survivors in 16 districts recently. This cash grant of 10,000 (about 95 US dollars) each were distributed in the month of December and early January to 53 thousand households.
NRCS Secretary General Dev Ratna Dhakhwa said, "This support is to assist people to buy additional warm clothes, fuels or food supplies in this cold season. The grants will have positive benefit of bringing cash flow into the local market as well."

The global Red Cross and Red Crescent is supporting the Nepal Red Cross Recovery Framework, which is closely linked to the government of Nepal’s recovery priorities.
Most of the people receiving the cash support were satisfied with the process and time of distribution. In the course of distribution, above 2,000 families were asked whether the support was timely and appropriate. According to survey, nearly 80 percent of the beneficiaries are satisfied and most of them are planning to buy the necessary utilities for their family members to be warm.
This was the second time cash distribution by NRCS to earthquake survivors in the worst-affected areas. Earlier, 40,000 unconditional cash grants of 15,000 rupees (about 145 US dollars) each were distributed to all families meeting the selection criteria as an immediate relief along with relief kits which included two tarpaulins, two blankets, one kitchen set and one emergency shelter kit.
