Reconstruction of safe and child-friendly schools
Since the immediate aftermath of the earthquake of April 25th 2015, Caritas Switzerland has been supporting the affected population in Sindhupalchok district. Recognizing the importance of education, and following the requests of the Government of Nepal, Caritas Switzerland established Temporary Learning Centers before the onset of the monsoon season. During the monsoon season, detailed technical and social assessments paved the way for the development of the designs for the reconstruction of 34 safe and child-friendly schools. These were now approved by the Department of Education, and construction works will start in March 2016.
