Seven pilgrims died after they were swept away while trying to cross the Kamala River swollen by heavy rain in Sindhuli district Monday.
The victims, four men and three women, were swept to death by the swollen river while trying to cross it at Gaagan area of Hatpate VDC, local reports said.
The victims have been identified as Kumiyadevi Nuniya and Gangadevi Nuniya of Suga VDC in Mahottari, Ajay Ram of Barahi in Sitamadhi of India, Ramparidevi Ram of Sekhauna VDC, Sarlahi, and Jogendra Thakur of Madhubani, India, police said. The identities of two others are yet to be established. The bodies were recovered from Nipane VDC and Sirthauli VDC.
The pilgrims were on their way to Madhu Ganga Mahadev, a Hindu shrine located at Hatpate, Sindhuli.
The dead bodies were found several metres away from the area where they had entered the water to cross the river. Thirteen other who were swept away by the river were rescued alive by rescue teams of Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel as well as locals. Nepalnews.com
