Executive Summary
In the immediate af termath of the earthquake on 25th April 2015, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, and many other partners, reached out to the most vulnerable population in the 14 mostaffected districts to deliver SRH services, with a special programme for adolescents, and to prevent and respond to GBV.
UNFPA’s integrated RH and GBV response focused on conducting mobile RH camps, establishing FFS, delivering dignity kits, providing life-saving reproductive health equipment and supplies and building the capacity of the health service providers.
The emergency Flash Appeal phase officially ended on 30 September 2015, with the majority of goals being met. However, a number of interventions are continuing given the needs that have emerged and as part of the transition from relief, to recovery and through to sustainable development.
UNFPA’s regular programmes continued in its 18 high priority districts even during the course of the earthquake response.
Humanitarian preparedness programmes will continue in selected earthquake affected districts in 2016.
The period August 2015 through mid-Februar y 2016 was a period of significant political unrest in Nepal, with demonstrations in several parts of the plain areas, border obstructions, strikes and fuel shortage that impacted development activities. While some delays were observed in distributions of relief items (RH Kits, Dignity Kits, FCHV motivational package, medical equipment etc) and monitoring of the majority of the activities remain on track.
