Jajarkot, a remote hilly district in mid-western region, has been left high and dry due to food shortage this year too.
As the state-owned Nepal Food Corporation's depots at 12 different places of the district have run out of stock of food grains, the district has been hit by extreme food shortage like previous years.
However, the district headquarters depot has only 30 quintals of rice grains meant only for the inmates at the District Prison.
Although food grain is available in shops in the local market, it is very costly and therefore, unaffordable for the majority of the poor.
The food crisis has become more pervasive as the people too have run out of food grain stocks at home and the new crop harvest is still months away.
