Unidentified assailants lobbed grenades at an election programme organised by the CPN (UML) in Khokling of Taplejung district on Saturday, injuring at least four persons.

Reports say that the unidentified persons threw what is believed to be two home-made grenades to disrupt the UML election programme being organised at Moti Higher Secondary, Khokling this afternoon.

However, the report couldn’t be immediately verified.

It is learnt that those injured in the incident are Padam Magar, 8, and Renuka Adhikari of Khokling-2. Man Bahadur BK and Tulsa Karki of Khokling-4 were also injured in the incident.

A report quoted a local teacher as saying that the condition of Magar is serious and he is being rushed to District Hospital Taplejung after preliminary health checkup at a local health post.

Police say only one of the two grenades thrown at the programme exploded, because of which further there were no additional injuries or casualty.

Situation in and around the village which lies in the western part of the district remains very tense as police have currently stepped up security at the site of the incident. Locals remain in terror due to the attack.

District Police Office, Taplejung has said that a police team has started a massive manhunt to nab the perpetrators who threw the bomb at the election programme which was organised at the school in sharp violation of the Election Commission’s election code of conduct.
