Due to continue rainfall in different parts of the country, many districts have been severely affected from 30 June to 13rd July 2017. Nepal Red Cross Society's (NRCS) disaster ituation report informed that more than one thousand three hundred families in 7 districts have been severely affected in the period. 13 people lost their life in flood and landslide. Two are injured and four are missing. 109 families are displaced due to damage of their house. Other 1,212 houses are partially damaged. NRCS disaster department head Mr. Dharma Raj Pandey informed that Saptari, Kaski, Parbat, Pyuthan, Dolakha, Terathum and Syangja are among the worst affected districts.
Nepal Red Cross Society has mobilized 81 volunteers and distributed 84 set of nonfood relief items (NFRIs) as well as additional 350 tarpaulins to the affected people in those districts. Red Cross volunteers have supported in initial responses as well. NRCS NFRI set includes following items: Tarpaulin-1 pc, female Saree-1 pc, Male Dhoti- 1 pc, suiting cloth-3.5 meters, printed cloth-7 meters, Plain cloth-2 mtr, Terri-Cotton cloth-4 meters, Kitchen utensils-1 set, water bucket-1 pc, Nylon rope-10 meters and Plastic packaging bag-1 pc.
Sapari district has faced more problem. Four rural and another four urban municipalities have been affected by flood and waterlogging in the district. NRCS Saptari has distributed 317 tarpaulins to the flood affected families that includes 100 in Tirhut, 47 in Rajbiraj, 70 in Tilathi Koiladi, 60 in Hanuman Nagar Kankalini, 30 in Maina Kaderi and 10 in Portaha area. A total of 1,222 families are estimated of being affected.
Mr.Pandey said, "We have already dispatched NFRIs sets to 8 needy districts. One NDRT (National Disaster Response Team) is deployed in Saptari area to support District Chapter on relief, coordination and reporting."
NRCS volunteers together with security forces and local organizations have been mobilized in search and rescue, and also to distribute ready to eat food to the affected families at local level.
Information of detail assessment and identification of total beneficiaries to be supported in various part of the country is yet to be received.
