The artificial lake formed at Sunkoshi River has burst, causing water level to decrease, on Sunday morning.

Debris from a massive landslide at Jure, Sindhupalchowk, on August 2 had blocked the Sunkoshi River, forming an artificial lake.

With this, the water level decreased by around 15-metres in the blocked part of the river.

Armed Police Force Inspector Babukaji Katawal said the lake had burst from the point where Nepal Army personnel were trying to unclog the pool, at around 3 am on Sunday.

The outburst swept away an excavator installed by the NA, and a house nearby suffered minor damages, Katawal added. Similarly, some parts of the road made by the Road Department were also affected.

The NA had conducted several explosions and excavation-works to allow the flow of water from the 'lake'. However, the water-level had not decreased significantly.

156 people were killed in the landslide, many were injured and property worth millions of rupees was damaged in the incident.
