REGIONAL SUMMARY
Chronic conflict, earthquakes, and recurrent seasonal storms, floods, and droughts, as well as limited government response capacity, present significant challenges to vulnerable populations throughout the South Asia region. 2 In addition to staff in Washington, D.C., USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) maintains a permanent regional office for South Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, where the USAID/OFDA regional team for South Asia is based. USAID/OFDA also has a humanitarian advisor in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
