The chaos across Nepal continues as aid agencies work to support the millions affected by the earthquake. With 2.2 million people displaced from their homes after the disaster, the threat of a cholera outbreak is imminent. GlobalMedic team members have been working in spontaneously formed camps to provide access to safe, clean water - the most important step to prevent disease outbreak and keep families safe. To further support family health, GlobalMedic's durable tents have now arrived in Kathmandu and the team will be installing them at identified hospitals and health clinics in desperate need of additional space to treat patients. Some of the tents will also be used to establish Child-Friendly Spaces - places across the disaster zone that offer psychosocial programming to support the unique needs of children. Often the most vulnerable people in the wake of a disaster, children require specific types of protection and support in order to process their stress in a healthy way and regain a sense of a normalcy.
In the air, our UAV teams are continuing operation across the region. They are working closely with the Nepalese Government to provide the most up to date information on the current needs, and coordinating with other agencies to ensure these needs are addressed. Due to the immense need, we are extending our aerial response to operate for an additional 30 days, with a supporting UAV team due to arrive in Kathmandu later today.
