KATHMANDU, 3rd May, 2015 (WAM) -- The Zayed Giving Initiative and the Saudi German Hospital have signed an agreement to deploy a field hospital to help in the ongoing relief operations in Nepal after a powerful earthquake last week left more than 7,000 people dead.

The multi-unit field hospital overseen by Emirati and Nepalese medical teams will use state-of-the-art equipment and ambulances and electricity generator.

The effort is supported by the Saudi German Hospital in Dubai and the Dar Al Ber Society and in partnership with the University Hospital of Kathmandu.

As per the agreement signed in Nepal, Emirati expertise will be used to set up training centres to prepare local disaster emergency response teams using internationally-approved simulators.

Adel Al Shameri, head of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said that the field hospital will be operational in the next seven days and its capacity will be increased in three phases to up to 25 beds.

The initiative was launched in 2002 and has served more than three million children and elderly people around the world.
