Marking the official closure of the peace process, 70 former Maoist combatants including four women were commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants of the Nepal Army as part of the army integration process on Monday.
Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Rana conferred insignia to the newly commissioned officers during a ceremony organised at the Military Academy in Kharipati, Bhaktapur. They were commissioned as officers after completing the basic cadet course.
Chairman of the interim election council Khil Raj Regmi, Defense Ministry officials, representatives of the foreign diplomatic missions were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Regmi said Nepal has set an example in the peace process.
The newly commissioned officers will be given three-month bridging course along with induction courses before getting promoted. One of them is to become Colonel and two Lt. Colonels. They will be part of the NA’s new Directorate of National Development and Security. Nealnews.com
